New batch of Clinton emails released by State Department

The State Department has released a fresh tranche of Hillary Clinton’s emails as part of the court-ordered rolling disclosure stemming from her use of a private server while serving as secretary of state. The latest dump—thousands of pages covering Clinton’s early tenure in 2009—includes routine scheduling notes, redacted exchanges on security matters, and multiple memos forwarded to Clinton by longtime confidant Sidney Blumenthal.

The disclosures arrive under the production schedule set after a federal court required monthly releases of the roughly 55,000 pages Clinton turned over to Foggy Bottom—an order we covered when a federal judge mandated gradual release of Hillary Clinton emails. This batch also follows the department’s initial publication in late May, when some Clinton emails were released while key questions remained.

Of particular note again are messages connected to Sidney Blumenthal—material that has already drawn attention on the Hill. As we reported, Blumenthal enjoyed lucrative financial arrangements with the Clintons while sending Clinton political and Libya-focused “intelligence” from outside government channels, and he was subsequently called to appear before the Benghazi committee (Blumenthal to testify on Benghazi on June 16). The new emails again show Blumenthal forwarding commentary and reporting to Clinton and top aides, consistent with earlier revelations that a Clinton Foundation adviser provided “intel” to the State Department.

State says reviewers are continuing to screen material for sensitive content and personal correspondence, a process that has produced heavy redactions under FOIA exemptions. The department maintains that any classification markings applied now reflect later determinations and do not necessarily mean the information was labeled classified at the time of transmission. Clinton has said she handed over all work-related messages and deleted emails she deemed personal.

The publication cadence underscores how the disclosure fight has evolved from a records kerfuffle into a recurring headline generator—one likely to persist through the next scheduled productions. For a campaign promising transparency, the monthly ritual of document dumps ensures the email story remains exactly where Team Clinton least wants it: on the calendar.
